The fighting between the rival army factions has entered the third week displacing over three lakh 30 thousand people within Sudan so far. According to reports, more than one lakh Sudanese are trying to cross the border to reach a safer place. Refugees have also been fleeing over Sudan’s border with Egypt in the north and Chad in the west. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has warned that the number of people fleeing could surpass eight lakhs if the conflict doesn’t end. Many reports estimated over 500 casualties while more than 4,500 people have reportedly been injured since the fighting began.

The fighting is yet to stop despite a ceasefire agreed upon by the rival forces. Explosions and gunfire echoed in Khartoum on Tuesday. Fierce clashes took place inside residential neighbourhoods that have become ghost areas after residents evacuated the towns. The fighting has come despite both sides declaring Sunday a second, three-day extension of a humanitarian cease-fire to allow safe corridors for healthcare workers and aid agencies working in the capital. The conflict is a power tussle between the military led by General Abdel-Fattah Burhan and a rival paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces commanded by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
