Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi Saturday said that the political parties have assured the Commission that the upcoming elections will be conducted with highest standards and decorum. The Election Commission held a meeting with all recognised national and state political parties in New Delhi.

Hate speeches and plunging standards of political discourse during campaigning were among the issues discussed during the meeting. The parties agreed that the issue had to be addressed.

Talking to media after the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said, the parties have assured that the upcoming elections will be conducted with highest standards and decorum.

The Commission also took up the issue of provocative advertisements in newspapers.

The agenda of the meeting also included use of totaliser for counting of votes on EVMs. The totaliser will enable taking out results from a group of EVMs as against counting on individual EVMs used at polling booths. With its use the voting pattern in particular polling stations will not be revealed as the results displayed through totaliser would be the results of the votes polled in a group of polling stations.

All national parties, including BJP and Congress, and 29 state parties attended the meet.
