Shurhozelie Liezitsu has been sworn-in as the 17th Chief Minister of Nagaland. The 81-year old Naga People’s Front party President was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor PB Acharya at a ceremony in Kohima today. He succeeded TR Zeliang, who resigned as the Chief Minister following widespread protests over reservation to women in local body elections. 10 other members of the Council also took oath.
Mr Liezitsu was invited by the Governor to form a new government on Monday after he emerged as the unanimous choice for the post and formally staked his claim. Following the resignation of Mr Zeliang, the agitating groups, including Nagaland Tribes Action Committee, called off its statewide bandh.
