The ruling-Left Democratic Front, LDF in Kerala has registered clear victory in most of the urban and rural local bodies.
Among the 6 corporations in the State, LDF won clear majority to rule in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kozhikode corporation and is in slight upper hand in Kochi and Thrissur corporations followed closely by Congress led UDF. In Kannur corporation , UDF registers clear majority to form the governing body.
BJP led NDA had fared well, as it won the Pandalam municipality and Palakkad , and also reached second position in Thiruvananthapuram corporation defeating UDF to the third place.
In municipalities UDF won in 45 places, LDF in 35 and NDA in 2.
In the Grama Panchayats LDF won in 514 of the 941 panchayats, followed by UDF in376 Panchayats , NDA in 23 and others in 28.
In Block panchayats LDF won in 108 blocks, UDF in 44.
Out of the 14 district panchayats, LDF won in 10 and UDF in 4.
Chief Minster Pianrayi Vijayan said that the local body elections results are the victory of the people of the State and a strong reply to false accusations.
The opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the result had not reflected the people’s feelings towards the State Govt.
The BJP State President K. Surendran accused LDF and UDF of forming coalitions in the State to defeat NDA.
