Lt Col Kandaswamy Ramraj, charged under section 302 of IPC (relating to murder) was produced before the Georgetown Special Court and remanded to 15-day judicial custody, report said.

Early in the day the Additional Director General of Police Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department R. Sekar said that it was a retired army officer Lt.col Kandasamy Ramarajan who killed the 13 year old boy Dilshan.

Speaking to media Mr.Sekar said, Ramarajan had confessed the crime and was arrested last night and would be produced before a magistrate.

The ADGP said, the physical, scientific, ballistic and forensic investigations enabled to zero in on the retired army official who had fired at the boy by using a point 30 calibre gun. Complimenting the efforts of the Army, local police and the forensic experts in the investigation Mr. Sekar said, the official had dumped the weapon and the bullets in the Cooum river just opposite to the scene of the crime. The remaining bullets in a pouch and the box were recovered today.

The 58 year old Ramarajan was an assistant engineer in the maintenance unit of small arms and had retired on April 30th of this year. Mr.Sekar clarified that the official had been staying stay in the Old Fort Glacis Army Officers Enclave as he had to settle the pension papers and other retirement documents.
