World Health Organization has gathered experts and researchers in Switzerland to study the links between the Zika virus and microcephaly. About 100 researchers, experts and health officials from affected countries are working to clarify the links between the Zika virus and microcephaly based on reported cases.
Executive Director ad interim of the Outbreaks and Health Emergencies Cluster Bruce Aylward says there has been an increase in the number of cases of microcephaly suspected to have been caused by the Zika virus.
Results of the talks will be incorporated into the WHO Zika emergency committee meeting, which starts today. Potential medication and preventative vaccines are also to be discussed.
