Results for Assembly bye-elections in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have been declared. Maharashtra, former Chief Minister and Congress heavyweight Narayan Rane lost to Shiv Sena’s Tripti Sawant by over a margin of around 19 thousand votes from Bandra East constituency. In the other seat of Tasgaon-Kavthe Mahanka, NCP’s Suman Patil won by record margin 1 lakh 13 thousand votes.

Congress candidate Mamta Rakesh has won the Bhagwanpur Assembly Constituency seat in Uttarakhand. She defeated BJP’s Rajpal Singh by round about 37 thousand votes. With this victory the Congress has got full majority of 36 in the 70 member State Assembly.

In Punjab, ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, SAD, candidate Gobind Singh Longowal won the Dhuri assembly seat with a margin of over 37 thousand votes. He defeated his nearest rival congress candidate, Simarpartap Singh. With this victory, the tally of SAD in the 117-member Punjab Assembly has reached 59, one more than the figure required for an absolute majority.

In Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party candidate Ms Urmila Rajput has won the Charkhari assembly seat in Mahoba district. She defeated her nearest rival Akhil Rajput of BJP by a margin of over forty thousand votes.
