The Union home minister Rajnath Singh has expressed concern over the misuse of the word secular and want it to be replaced by PANTH NIRPEKESH. Initiating discussion in the Lok Sabha on commitment to India’s constitution as part of 125th birth anniversary celebration of Dr Ambedkar, he said Ambedkar did not use the word secular in the Preamble, Mr Singh said because India was traditionally a panth-nirpeksh country.
The Union home minister expressed concern over the misuse of the word secular for political purposes. Initiating discussion in the Lok Sabha on commitment to India’s constitution as part of 125th birth anniversary celebration of Dr Ambedkar, he said Ambedkar did not use the word secular in the Preamble, Mr Singh said because India was traditionally a panth-nirpeksh country.
“Dr Ambedkar didn’t find it necessary to insert ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ words in Preamble because he felt it’s already in our basic nature,” says Union Home Rajnath Singh in the winter session of the Parliament. Minister Rajnath Singh pointed out that ‘secular’ is the most misused world in Indian politics today.
“If there’s is any word which is misused the most in Indian politics, that is ‘Secular’. Instead of ‘dharma-nirpeksha’, the word ‘pant-nirpeksha’ should be used,” Rajnath Singh told Lok Sabha while participating in 2-day discussion on Constitution.
Home Minister said that Dr Ambedkar didn’t use ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ words in Preamble because India is inherently secular. “Dr Ambedkar didn’t find it necessary to insert ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ words in Preamble because he felt it’s already in our basic nature,” Singh said.
“Dr Ambedkar introduced concept of reservation for equality, he said it’s a socio-political necessity. Preamble is soul of the Constitution and no changes should be made to that,” he added. He said, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar introduced the concept of reservation aiming at bringing equality in the society. Mr Singh clarified that the government is of the view that the concept of reservation should not be diluted as it is a socio-political necessity.
Stating people try to present Dr. Ambedkar as a dalit leader, Rajnath Singh said Dr. Ambedkar should not be restricted to such a narrow purview. He said Dr Ambedkar has lauded the efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who had played a pivotal role in the country’s integration. Mr Singh likened Patel to unifying force and Dr Ambedkar to binding force. The Home said Jawaharlal Nehru played an essential role in establishing democracy in the country.
