Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi convoy was attacked by an unruly mob in Banaskatha district of Gujarat. Rahul is in Gujarat to meet the victims of floods in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s convoy was attacked with stones when he was touring flood-hit areas. The Congress blamed the incident on the BJP.

The Congress Vice President is safe but a security man travelling with him was injured, the party said.

“This is a dastardly attack. Do they think they can silence the opposition, they can cow down anybody with violence?” said Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

The Congress said Mr Gandhi was surveying flood-hit areas when his convoy was attacked with cement bricks.

“The car was damaged, a window was shattered, an SPG (Special Protection Group) personnel was hurt,” Mr Singhvi said.

After the incident Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi asserted that he and his party could not be cowed down by stone pelters or staging black flags against him in Gujarat.

“Neither with pro-Narendra Modi slogans, black flags nor stone pelting, we can be pushed behind,” Mr Gandhi said in a tweet and maintained that his party will continue to help people in the flood-devastated areas of Gujarat.

The tweet from Mr Gandhi came within minutes there were reports that his car was stoned at flood-hit Banaskantha district.
