At least eight passenger were killed and many were injured when a private bus they were travelling met with an accident on the Bathinda-Talwandi Sabo road on Friday. The bus was carrying over 45 passengers when it fell into the Lasara drain in Jeewan Singhwala village.
Bathinda DC Showkat Ahmad Parray and SSP Amneet Kondal, along with other officials and an NDRF team, rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation.
The SSP confirmed eight persons have died. The injured have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, he said.
Bhatinda Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmed Parray said that 26 others traveling in the bus have been injured and admitted to various hospitals. They are safe and stable. He said that NDRF and district police reached the spot soon after the accident and rescued the passengers with the help of volunteers. A control room has been set up with mobile numbers 97801-00498 and 96468-15951 for inquiries.
