President Pranab Mukherjee has asked people to commit themselves to protection of child rights. Addressing the opening session of the Laureates and Leaders for Children Summit in New Delhi, Mr Mukherjee said country has a moral obligation towards children, their development and security.
He said that programmes for children have to take centre-stage in national policy-making. The President called for addressing the disparities in education, health and poverty indicators.
The President said exploitation of resources and degradation of the environment is a serious challenge to sustainable development. He said developing economies, which are closely related to climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture and forestry, are more vulnerable to climate change.
