ECIPolitical parties in poll-bound Tamil Nadu have demanded single phase Assembly Election in the state. Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and the two Election Commissioners gave audience to the representatives of recognized political parties in Chennai yesterday. After meeting the CEC, the political leaders told media persons that they prefer a single phase Assembly Elections.

The opposition parties also demanded that prohibitory orders under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code should not be imposed all over the state just prior to elections. They also urged the election officials to take strong actions to prevent distribution of money and liquor to influence voters.

All liquor shops in the state should be closed down for at least three days prior to the date of polling, they insisted. The CEC and the ECs will be meeting top revenue and police officials today to know their opinion about the timing of holding the elections.
