NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Thursday evening held a crucial meeting with concerned ministers and officials to clear the mess over the preparation of Common wealth games beginning October 3.

The meeting was attended by Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and Sports Minister M S Gill, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna and Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon and Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar were also present in the meeting.

Briefing the media after the meeting Lt .Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna said that prime minister was briefed about progress in the preparations for games. He asserted that every effort is being made to meet the expected standards and expressed confidence that games will be a grand success. “The    guests are being extended hospitality keeping in view the highest Indian traditions”, he said.

Meanwhile Home Minister Mr. P.Chidambaram reviewed the security situation in view of the mega games. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Home Ministry, Delhi Police and Central Security agencies.

While taking note of the delays, the Home Minister set certain timelines for the Organising Committee and other authorities to complete the works. The Delhi Police informed the Home Minister that once the venues are handed over to the Delhi Police, full security will be provided and there need not be any concern about security.

After the meeting, Delhi Police Chief Y.S.Dadwal assured media persons that foolproof security arrangements have been made for the Commonwealth Games.

Cleanliness drive at the games village is liklt to be completed by Saturday. Over seventy countries are participating in the CWG.

The Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi has said that all the participating countries are taking part in the games.
