Zeliang reiterated that the politicians in the state belonging to various political parties have come together keeping in mind the early solution of the Naga issue. The chief minister questioned why cannot the different Naga groups and sections of the society come together to solve the protracted Naga problem for the good of all Nagas.
“Let us solve the problem and not bequeath an unsolved problem to the succeeding Naga generations,” he added.
Zeliang said Nagas were no less than any other people of the world, adding that the Naga people must give peace to the younger generation and let them flourish and compete with other people of the world.
He expressed his apprehension that “if we delay the settlement of the problem, the number of factions might increase which will only bring hardship to all of us.”
Zeliang maintained that God has a special plan for the Nagas and there was a special destiny for the Nagas. He, however, said the ground reality was that solution could be brought about only through non-violence and through negotiations with the government of India.
On the occasion, the chief minister also stressed the importance of preserving culture and tradition. He said losing one’s culture and tradition meant losing one’s identity.
The chief minister was accompanied by a host of his cabinet colleagues, parliamentary secretaries, advisors, deputy speaker, party functionaries and officials from the district. Various cultural items were presented by various cultural troupes in both the villages.
