Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked BJP MPs and MLAs to submit details of their bank account transactions between Nov.8 and December 31 to party President Amit Shah.
Addressing BJP Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi today, Mr. Modi rejected the allegation that the Income-Tax Amendment Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha yesterday is for converting black money into white.
The bill proposes to levy a total tax, penalty and surcharge of 50 percent on the amount deposited post demonetisation while higher taxes and penalty of upto 85 per cent await those who don’t disclose but are caught.
Speaking to media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the Prime Minister described the move as fight against black money. He said Mr. Modi also sought support from everyone to make India a digital and cashless economy.
On Parliament impasse, Mr. Kumar reiterated that the government is ready for discussion on the issue of demonetization. He said the Prime Minister will also express his views on the issue.
