Paswan who has been spearheading campaign for justice to the victim of Forbesganj had also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought his intervention in the matter.

“Rahulji goes everywhere to champion the cause of the underprivileged. He should go to Forbesganj also. It concerns the minorities. Brutal murder has taken place in broad daylight,” he told a group of journalists.

Paswan has been demanding a CBI probe into the incident besides removal of the district superintendent of police and sub-divisional officer, and registering murder cases against the two officers.

Paswan accused Bihar government for communalizing the state like Gujarat. “Muslims in the Forbesganj village were murdered by the police. It is a sensitive area near the Bangladesh border and the RSS is actively trying to fan communal tensions,” Paswan said, pointing out why it was all the more necessary for Rahul to visit.

Nitish assures fast action

PATNA: (AMN) Though unconvincing, the chief minister Nitish Kumar assured a large group his Muslims party workers action would be taken within 24 hours of submission of the report of the judicial inquiry ordered by his government. “The government will take action on the probe report within a day of its submission”, Kumar told a state-level conference of JDU minorities cell  here.

He said that some politicians are trying to ‘comunalise’ the Forbesganj police firing in which five  people were killed on June 3,

“I will prefer quitting the CM’s post to doing injustice to any citizen of the state,” he said adding that he did not need a certificate of secularism from anyone.

He said that his government during the last six years initiated several welfare schemes for the minorities which instilled a sense of confidence in them. “When my government came to power in 2005, the first thing we did was to reopen several Bhagalpur riots cases. We found that while the riots accused were roaming free, proper compensations eluded the victims,” he said and added at least 29 cases had been closed and the accused absolved despite there being enough evidence against them.

“My government constituted a commission to look afresh into such cases and ensure justice. It was at the initiative of my government that the Centre agreed to give compensation to the Bhagalpur riots victims on a par with that given to the victims of the anti-Sikh riots in 1984 in Delhi,” he said
