After removing Surya Namaskar from Yoga, the Government also made it clear that participation in International Yoga Day events is not compulsory. Talking to media persons after reviewing the preparations for the mega event to be held at Rajpath, Minister of State for AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik said that it was yoga and has nothing to do with religion.

Mr Naik reaction came after some minority groups opposed against compulsory yoga classes in schools. The Minister said, it is an opportunity for everyone in the country to showcase before the world of India ancient legacy. He said, this initiative has nothing to do with any party and will help bring pride to the country. Mr Naik said, when the resolution was passed in the United Nations, 177 nations were in its favour, of which 37 are Muslim countries. Sources said, government has invited diplomats from 152 foreign missions in the country for the mega event on 21st of June to celebrate the International Yoga Day.

Earlier the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had decided to launch a nationwide campaign against making Yoga and Surya Namaskar compulsory in schools.
