Lok Sabha secretariat is undertaking up-gradation & modernisation of the Parliament Museum at a cost of Rs 19.04 crores to be completed in five months.
The Central Public Works Department has already issued a tender inviting contractors and the process for awarding the contract will be done soon, said a source.
Interestingly, sixteen years ago then President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on 14 August 2006 inaugurated new Parliament Museum which was the brainchild of then Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
The idea and concept was developed by Dr Saroj Ghose, the father museum movement in India.
According to Lok Sabha source, the Parliament Museum will be closed down for renovation and modernization any time now.
The themes on which the museum will be renovated such as democratic traditions, constitution history, the structural strength of the Indian democracy-Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, and media.
In the ground floor while the other themes to be covered include Indian democracy in action (reorganization of states, mass movements and history and development of parties) successful running of Indian democracy (elections) the history of Indian parliament right from the time Durbar was held in Delhi. All this will be displayed in the first floor.,
Secondly, there will be more focus on its digitization and the artifacts in the museum will be exhibited in state of art with Digital Content in the form of Virtual Reality (VR)& Augmented reality (AR). making it more interactive.
