A gas explosion inside a coal mine on Wednesday killed at least four workers and seriously injured another miner in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.

According to the Dawn newspaper report, four coal miners burnt to death as result of a methane gas blast inside a coal mine in Chamalang area of Dukki district.

Dukki’s district police officer Sardar Hashim Khan said one coal miner sustained serious injuries as a result of the blast.

He said the miners were extracting coal from thousands feet inside the mine when the tragedy struck.

Chief mine inspector of Balochistan Ifthikar Ahmed said that five labourers were extracting coal out of the mines in Chamalang when it filled with gas leading to an explosion. The explosion resulted in killing four of the labourers.

The deceased and injured labourers were been shifted to a hospital. Authorities added that the deceased labourers all belonged to the same family, including two brothers.

Further, the coal mine has been sealed and an investigation has been launched.
