In a bid to ensure free and fair elections in the country, the Election Commission, has recommended to include Paid News in the list of electoral offences.
In an interview to AIR News, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that the Commission has suggested the Law Ministry to take necessary steps to amend the governing statutes in order to include Paid News as an electoral offence. Mr. Chandra informed that the Central poll body is very much concerned about the menace of Paid News and takes all due steps in order to curb it.
The facility of remote electronic voting for migrant workers and NRIs will soon become a reality in India. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that testing of the remote voting facility is underway and the measure aimed at further increasing inclusivity and voter participation will soon become a reality. He added, the novel initiative will allow a large number of people to exercise their franchise even from distant locations.
The Election Commission has also written to the Law Ministry to work on related amendments in the governing statutes. The remote voting facility will enable migrant workers, NRIs and all other such people to cast their votes who are physically away from the place where they are registered as eligible voters.
