MUMBAI/ NEW DELHI: (AMN) While paying homage to the victims on the second anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror sticks, India on Friday pledged to redouble efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack to justice. In a statement the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the country would never succumb to the designs of the enemies. He said two years ago Mumbai was subjected to a brutal terrorist attack that claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent people. While saluting the courage, unity and resolve of ordinary Mumbaikars and the brave and selfless actions of the men in uniform during the attack, Dr Singh said that it is this spirit and strength of character of the Indian people that will defeat forces that seek to threaten the country’s social fabric and way of life. He said the nation joins the bereaved families in remembering and mourning those who perished in the barbaric attack.
Earlier, India called upon Pakistan to act on its commitment to bring perpetrators of Mumbai terrorist attacks to justice. It conveyed to Islamabad New Delhi’s regret that despite repeated assurances by Pakistani leadership at the highest level and the cooperation extended by India in the ongoing trial and investigations in Pakistan into the Mumbai attacks, there has not been substantive and verifiable progress towards bringing all the perpetrators and masterminds of the heinous attack to justice. The statement by the External Affairs Ministry said.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said in Mumbai that Pakistan had promised to bring to justice the masterminds, the controllers and the handlers of the terror strike by arresting all the seven persons whose names were handed over by India to it. He said Pakistan had not even handed over the voice samples of the handlers of the 10 Pakistani terrorists who struck in Mumbai. Chidambaram said India has learnt a lesson that while we will trust our neighbour, it must always be on guard. He however expressed the hope that Islamabad will take proper action expected of it
He was speaking after handing over the CNG filling station dealership to the family of Tukaram Ombale, an unarmed Mumbai police constable, who was killed when Kasab was caught alive in suburban Borivali on that fateful night. Defence Minister A K Antony said the 26/11 Mumbai terror strike is a grim reminder of the volatile neighbourhood.
Meanwhile the whole Mumbai city joined hands in paying tribute to the martyrs and victims of the 26/11 terrorist attack on its second anniversary. Leaders along with common citizens through various events put forward a strong message of solidarity and showed unity and strength to fight the menace of terrorism. Various organisations in Mumbai organised multiple events from blood donations camps to peace march and payed homage to the martyrs and victims of the historic terrorist attack.
