The Chair of the ASEAN Summit, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has called for unity among the member countries to resolve the crisis in military-ruled Myanmar as there has been no significant progress in the peace plan.

Violence in Myanmar dominated the two-day ASEAN summit held in Labuan Bajo in Indonesia in the backdrop of attacks on the humanitarian aid convoy of AHA Center and the ASEAN Monitoring Team in Myanmar.

Chairing the summit on the concluding day today, Mr Widodo said that Indonesia continues to engage with various parties in Myanmar for the implementation of the Five-point consensus (5PC) reached earlier in April 2021.

He said Indonesia continued its effort to create an atmosphere to facilitate inclusive dialogue, distribution of humanitarian aid and an end to violence.

ASEAN Chair and Indonesian President called upon the 10-member grouping to chart a united path to deescalate the spiralling violence since the military overthrew the government led by Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021.

The military government of Myanmar is not allowed to take part in the ASEAN summit for its failure to implement the 5 point consensus (5PC) which is the foundation for engagement between the military government and the ASEAN.

The 5PC envisages cessation of all violence, humanitarian aid and access to the ASEAN Special envoy to all parties in the Myanmar conflict to which Myanmar military had agreed in 2021.
