The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) today issued notice to the Union Sports Ministry over reports of ill treatment to Indian players, who had gone to participate in Asia-Pacific deaf and mute games in China. Media reports say the players’ passports were seized in China Taipei due to non-payment of hotel bills.
Earlier, they also had a difficult time in Delhi when they had to spend a night on the footpath outside a Gurudwara while waiting to get visa as there were no arrangements for their stay.
Taking cognizance of the media reports, the Commission has asked the Sports Secretary to submit a detailed report in the matter within four weeks. The NHRC observed that the incident, if true, is violation of human rights of players.
