South Korea’s intelligence agency estimates that the ballistic missile launched by North Korea on Sunday had a range of more than 2,000 kilometers.
North Korea launched the missile near the city of Kusong in the northwestern province of Pyongan-pukdo. The country said yesterday that it successfully test-fired a new middle-range ballistic missile that was an upgraded version of a submarine-launched missile.
Today senior officials of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service briefed a parliamentary committee on their analysis of the launch.
People at the briefing say the officials explained that the missile was fired at an angle of 89 degrees, and that if launched at a normal angle, it could fly more than 2,000 kilometers.
