The world’s longest river cruise MV Ganga Vilas tourists today visited the historic Sivasagar town in the northeast part of Assam famous for monuments and palaces of the Ahom kingdom. The 26 Swiss and two German tourists visited Ranghar, Talatal Ghar and Siva Doul in this heritage town of Assam. The tourists enjoyed Bihu dance performances organised by the Sivasagar district administration.

Earlier, in the day, the tourists visited the Auniati, Uttar Kamalabari and Samaguri Sattras in the world’s largest river island Majuli. The Majuli district administration welcomed the Ganga Vilas tourists with cultural programmes and Bihu dances. The tourists also visited the centres famous for bamboo and wooden motif masks.

MV Ganga Vilas tourists were welcomed by the Jorhat District administration on their arrival at Nimatighat. MV Ganga Vilas, scheduled to travel 12 days in Assam, will culminate its journey at Dibrugarh tomorrow.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the receiving ceremony of the MV Ganga Vilas on its successful completion of the world’s longest river cruise along with MoS Sripad Yesso Naik and Shantanu Thakur. Rameswar Teli, MoS for Labour, Employment, Petroleum & Natural Gas and Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MoS for Education and External Affairs will also attend the programme along with several other dignitaries.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had virtually flagged off the cruise on the 13th of January 2023 from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh which has already traversed through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Bangladesh.
