PATNA: While the whole Bihar is rejoicing the splendid victory of Nitish kumar in the Assembly elections, the Muslim in the state too have something to cheer exclusively. The Muslim representation in the Bihar Legislative House has increased substantially in the elections. Their tally has increased from 14 in last assembly to 19 in the new House. This time Muslims have got elected from all major parties including BJP. The only Muslim candidate from the BJP Saba Zafar- defeated congress nominee Abdul Jalil Mastan by a margin of by over 18,000 votes in Amour constituency of Muslim populated Purnia district. Interestingly out of four victorious congress candidates three are Muslims. Two women from the community too are among the winners.
Like its total victory, Muslims too have bigger share in the JDU with seven candidates winning from the party. The RJD got six Muslims elected while LJP two. The percentage of Muslim representation in the state has gone up by two per cent. Now it is around 8 per cent. It should also be noted that Muslim candidates were in second position in more than 30 seats across the state.
