PATNA: The only Muslim candidate from the party – Saba Zafar- won the election from Amour seat in muslim populated Purnia by a margin of by over 18,000 votes. Zafar defeated Abdul Jalil Mastan of the Congress.
Also the Party leaders said that BJP candidates had done well in over 40 of 60 assembly seats which have a sizeable presence of Muslims.
The results shows that Muslims have played an important role in Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) spectacular performance in the Bihar assembly elections. Party leaders have on Wednesday claimed that it has received tremendous support for the Muslim community in the elections.
Talking to media persons BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that party had received support from Muslims despite the efforts by its rivals to brand the party as communal . He said that the Bihar verdict would prove to be a watershed in Indian politics.
Accusing congress and RJD, Hussain said that Muslims also need security and development and have understood that they were treated as a vote bank by their so called saviours.
