Mumbai police today arrested a man for allegedly sexually harassing an American woman on Monday morning near Gateway of India. The accused has been identified as Gopal Valmiki. According to police officials a case was registered yesterday at Colaba police station against Valmiki after the tweet of victim with Valmiki’s photo went viral. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also instructed senior police officers to look into matter.
A police team yesterday recorded the US national’s statement. A case has been registered under IPC Section 509 which deals with the gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a women. The 35 year-old complainant told the police that the incident happened in broad daylight on the street when she was on her morning walk. The woman is employed at an audit firm in the city.
