India’s Meteorological Department has predicted a very hot summer this year. In its latest forecast, Met office said, the summer temperatures in 2016 are expected to be above normal by more than one degree.

The year 2015 was the third warmest on record since 1901. This warming trend continued during the January and February of 2016 as well. Met Department said, the average temperature during February was the warmest on record since 1901 with anomaly of 2 degrees above normal.

There is also high probability of moderate and severe heat wave conditions in majority of states across India during the season. In last summer, prolonged severe heat wave conditions in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana had claimed hundreds of lives. AMN
