Earlier Ms. Banerjee was elected leader of Trinamool Congress Legislative Party. Partha Chatterjee was elected Deputy Leader and Soubhandev Chattopadhyay as Chief Whip of the party.

Trinamool Congress chief Banerjee was not in the delegation as she had left for Delhi with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the swearing-in ceremony, the date of which has not yet been announced.
“We met the Governor and formally staked claim to form the government,” party MP Sultan Ahmed, who was in the delegation, told reporters at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.
After elected as the TCLP leader Mamta told media that Congress will join her ministry. She said that her ministry would be small in size and Congress and SUCI would take part in it.
SUCI, which won one seat, has been requested to join the ministry, she said. “SUCI has said it will let us know,” she said.
“This massive electoral success, the second victory of independence has been possible because of those who love us, support us and assist us,” she said, adding that the party’s victory rally would be held at Brigade Parade Ground on 27th July.
Meanwhile Governor M K Narayanan has dissolved the 14th state legislative Assembly. A Raj Bhavan statement on Sunday said that in view of the Election Commission’s notification, the Governor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sub-clause (b) of Clause (2) of Article 174 of the Constitution, has dissolved the House with effect from Saturday.
