Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of 24th and last Jain Tirthankar Lord Mahavir is being celebrated across the country with traditional fervour sanctity today.

It is one of the most sacred days for Jain people. The followers of Lord Mahavir celebrate this festival by chanting prayers, offering Prasad and participating in chariot processions.

In Bihar, Mahavir Jayanti is being celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety. The main function has been organized at Kundalpur, the birthplace of Lord Mahavir in Nalanda district of the state.

Pilgrims across the country and the globe are celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir at Kundalpur. This religious place is situated 3 KM from Nalanda.

Jain devotees took part in Shobha yatra procession this morning. A special puja is being observed at Digambar Jain temple in which a large number of devotees are participating. Dugdabhishek of the statue of Bhagwan Mahavir was also performed amid chanting of mantras.

On this occasion, Digambar temple has been decorated nicely. Birth anniversary of Mahavir is also being celebrated at Pawapuri. Two days Kundalpur Mahotsav has also been organized to commemorate a birthday celebration.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted the people on this occasion.

In a message, the President said that Lord Mahavira’s message of peace and non-violence has enriched our cultural heritage. He said, on this auspicious day, the people should resolve to ceaselessly strive for harmony in our country and across the world.

In his message, the Vice President said, that Bhagwan Mahavir’s messages of non-violence, truth and universal compassion illuminated a path of righteousness and honesty. Mr Naidu said, his teachings are universal and therefore relevant to the entire world.
