Considering the grim situation in view of the coronavirus pandemic, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has urged people to avoid crowding during the upcoming Ganesh festival. After attending a review meeting, Mr. Thackeray said that the festival should be celebrated peacefully, keeping social responsibility in mind. Noting that people from all religions have so far cooperated with the government by observing simple celebrations of festivals at home, Mr. Thackeray said this time too, citizens must not take out processions before installing and immersing idols.

An official statement reminded that sarvajanik mandals must restrict idol height to four feet while idols installed at home must not exceed height of two feet. The government has asked Ganesh mandals to facilitate online darshan.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has asked local government bodies to create a maximum number of artificial ponds to avoid crowding during immersion of idols. The ten day Ganpati festival is all set to begin from Saturday.
