The Maharashtra government has reinstated Ms Rashmi Shukla as the Director General of Police (DGP) and head of the State’s police force. This decision follows the conclusion of the Assembly elections, according to an Order from the State Home Department issued on Monday evening.

Senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Verma had temporarily assumed the role of DGP after Ms Rashmi Shukla was removed from her position. This change occurred due to a directive from the Election Commission of India before the Assembly elections. The removal was prompted by a request from Maharashtra Congress unit chief Nana Patole. Mr. Verma was appointed to hold the top position until the election process concluded. During this period, Ms Shukla was placed on compulsory leave, as stated in a previous State government Order. With the election results announced on Sunday, the Election Commission declared the Model Code of Conduct concluded on Monday.
