student-photoJammu & Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE) has declared that there will be no postponement of examinations and announced 50% reduction in syllabus for the students appearing in Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar yesterday, chairman of JK Board of School Education (BOSE) Zahoor Ahmad Chatt said that the only purpose to hold exams in November is to save the academic career of the students who have to appear in other national and international level competitive exams.

As per the dates already announced by BOSE, the exams for class 10 will commence from November 15 while the exams for class 12 will start from November 14.

Majority of the students, Private School Association and cross section of people have been pleading and appealing for deferment of exams to March next year in view of continuing unrest since the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 08. The government has not acceded to the demand till now.

Educational experts opined that deferment of examinations would give ample time to prepare for the examinations. Even media opinion favours the deferment of examinations. As many as 29 schools were set ablaze by unknown persons leading to the chaos and tension among student community. The act has been condemned by the separatists, cross section of people and other stakeholders.

At least 94 people including two police personnel have been killed and more than 14000 civilians injured with around one thousand hit in eyes in the ongoing unrest in the Valley in the last 119 days after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 08. Around 5000 security forces personnel have also been injured in the clashes. Over ten thousand were jailed with majority of them released on bail and nearly 500 persons booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
