The Supreme Court today declined to hear a plea seeking initiation of criminal contempt proceedings against JNUSU President, Kanhaiya Kumar and five other scholars. Refusing to hear a plea filed by one, Vineet Dhanda, a bench of the apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India Tirath Singh Thakur, asked the petitioner to take the consent of the attorney General before the hearing.
The contempt petition had been filed in the top Court seeking criminal contempt action against the students, who allegedly raised anti-India slogans during an event in JNU. The petition stated that the students had crossed every limit of freedom of speech and expression by calling the epitome of justice, judicial killers.
