The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) community has expressed pride over the appointment of its Registrar, Prof. Mohammad Mahtab Alam Rizvi, as Visiting Professor at the South Asia Centre for Peace Research and Sustainable Development, Lumbini Buddhist University, Nepal.
JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif hailed the development as a “moment of honour” for the university, noting that Prof. Rizvi’s scholarship and dedication had brought international recognition to Jamia. The Centre in Nepal is focused on advancing peace-building, diplomacy, regional cooperation and sustainable development.
Prof. Rizvi, with over two decades of academic and research experience, said he was “delighted and grateful” to contribute to such initiatives. He has served as JMI’s Registrar since March 2025 and earlier directed the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution. His expertise lies in international relations, foreign policy and security studies, with research on Iran’s nuclear programme, conflicts in West Asia, South Asia–West Asia relations and Iran–China engagements.
A PhD in Political Science from AMU, Prof. Rizvi is also a Nehru Memorial Fellowship awardee and currently serves on several academic panels, including AMU and MANUU. Jamia faculty members termed the appointment a collective pride for the institution.
