The death toll from a devastating explosion that rocked the sprawling Shahid Rajaee Port near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran yesterday has risen to 14, with at least 750 others injured. Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni informed this. The blast occurred after a fuel tanker exploded for unknown reasons at the port in Hormozgan Province.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a statement on social media, expressed his sorrow and sympathy with the victims and issued an order to investigate the causes of the incident. He said the Interior Minister had been sent to the region as his special representative to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The National Iranian Petroleum Refining and Distribution Company said that the oil facilities were not affected by the blast.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed satisfaction with the progress made in indirect nuclear talks with the United States. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after the third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in Muscat, Oman, yesterday. He said negotiations are proceeding well and remain satisfactory. He added that both parties are determined to reach an agreement. He noted that Oman, as the facilitating country, would determine the details of the next round of the talks, which is likely to be held next Saturday.
