Nationwide protests in Iran turned violent last night as armed protesters tried to overrun military bases and police stations.

The Iranian State television aired footage of a ransacked private bank, broken windows, overturned cars and a firetruck that appeared to have been set ablaze. It said, security forces repelled the protesters bringing the death toll in the unrest to at least 14.

The demonstrations, the largest to strike the country since its disputed 2009 Presidential election, began on Thursday in Mashhad over economic issues and have since expanded to several cities. Some protesters chanted against the government and the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Hundreds have been arrested.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has said, it is time for a change in Iran. He said in a tweet that Iran is failing at every level despite what he called a terrible deal made with them by the administration of his predecessor Barack Obama.
