India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ravi Thapar has been recalled to the headquarters in New Delhi following allegations that his wife assaulted a domestic help.
Ministry of External Affairs today said the High Commissioner has been posted back to the headquarters and an investigation in the matter will be carried out.
In a statement issued in New Delhi, Ministry spokesperson said media reports involving High Commissioner in New Zealand have been taken notice of and Ministry is seized of the matter. He said it was first brought to the notice of the Ministry on 10th of May this year when one of the service staff Members of the High Commission was found missing.
The spokesperson said a team was deputed from Headquarters to New Zealand to ascertain the facts and conduct an independent inquiry. The team also facilitated the return of the service staff member who wanted to return to India.
According to reports, the staff member had told the police that he was assaulted by the High Commissioner’s wife.
