THE Indian Coast Guard, ICG apprehended a Sri Lankan Boat with Heroin, Weapons and Six Crew on board at about 10 Nautical Miles off Kanyakumari. The ICG said, it carried out an extensive search after receiving credible information on an illegal consignment of narcotic drugs to be smuggled in India through the sea route.
Acting upon the input, ICG had deployed five ships and two aircraft to carry out a sea-air search operation since 17th Nov. 99 packets of Heroin, 20 boxes of synthetic drugs, five 9 MM Pistol and a satellite phone set were recovered. The drugs and weapons were hidden in an unapproachable location in the boat.
During initial questioning, the crew members revealed that the drugs were transferred onto Sri Lankan vessel ‘Shenaya Duwa’ on the high seas by a Pakistani Dhow from Karachi. The ICG said that the joint interrogation will be proceeded in Tuticorin.
