Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar has said, India has been able to secure its interest and that of the developing countries in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Mr Javadekar said, all the 196 countries which had participated in the Paris conference, have agreed to adopt environment friendly steps in their development works. He said, in the agreement, it has been assured to provide financial and technical assistance to India and developing countries for climate mitigation and adaptation of environment friendly measures.

Earlier, making a suo-moto statement in both Houses of Parliament, Mr Javadekar said, the Paris agreement meets the broad expectations of India. He said, the agreement supports the efforts to harmonize development with environment while protecting the interest of the most vulnerable. The Minister represented India in Conference of Parties under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which adopted the agreement on 12th of this month.
