AMN

Incessant rains continued to lash Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra for the second consecutive day today. The Indian Meteorological Department said that due to active monsoon conditions, the entire Konkan coast including Mumbai is experiencing an intense spell of rainfall.

Monsoon remained widespread active over the entire Konkan belt, including Mumbai with heavy to very heavy rainfall over many places. Interior Maharashtra also received fairly widespread rainfall with mostly moderate to isolated heavy rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Colaba weather bureau reported 66.0 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm today, while the Santacruz weather station recorded 111.4 mm rainfall during the same span.

Water-logging was reported in low-lying areas like Sion, Dadar, Milan Subway, Kandivali, Malad, Goregaon and Dahisar areas. The civic official said that there have been 19 complaints of tree/branches falling, but nobody was injured in the incidents.

Due to continuous rainfall the water level in the Mithi river is also rising, so as a precautionary measure the civic body has asked people living in the nearby Kranti nagar area to move to safer places. The neighbouring Navi Mumbai and Thane district including Thane city, Kalyan, Dombivli, Bhiwandi, Ambarnath, Badlapur, Murbad have also been experiencing continuous downpour since two days. Till now Thane has recorded 101mm of rainfall.

Incessant rains have also lashed other parts of Maharashtra including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nandurbar, Dhule and Osmanabad districts.

Mumbai is expected to witness a high tide of over 4.47 meters tonight at around 11.33 pm. The civic body has asked people to stay away from the sea shore as a precautionary measure. The weather bureau said that Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to experience intermittent moderate to heavy rain with the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rain at isolated places in the next 24 hours.
