The Government on Friday said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting undertook a special drive for providing financial assistance to the families of journalists who succumbed to Covid 19.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha Union Minister of State for Health and family welfare Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar said that a sum of Rs. five crore was approved during 2020 and 2021 for financial assistance at a rate of Rs.5 lakh to each of the 101 families of journalists who died due to Covid 19.
The Minister added that on the basis of the applications received by Press Information Bureau which fulfill the criteria laid under the Journalists welfare scheme administered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
