Hillwoods Academy organized World Space Week from 4th Oct to 15th Oct 2019. World Space Week is an international event, which is celebrated worldwide to spread awareness about the contribution of Space Science and Technology for the betterment of human condition. The theme for the WSW was: “The Moon -The Gateway to the Stars”.
Various activities were conducted for the students during this period. The space week started with a MOVIETHON; the students of class IX AND XI were shown a movie -Gravity and a documentary on “LIFE OF ASTRONAUTS IN INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION” .The documentary was on Sunita William’s Space Expedition. She is one of the most experienced spacewalker in NASA history. Near the conclusion of her final voyage as a commander of the ISS FOR NASA in 2012-a mere twelve hours before landing back to Earth. Students could understand the life of an astronaut in the space station .
Hillwoods Academy promotes pollution-free Diwali
Students came to know about her stay for six months in ISS. A theme based poem recitation and fancy dress was conducted for the students of class III. The students enthusiastically participated in the activity. “Alien Mask Making” activity was done by the students of class IV & V. Students created beautiful mask putting their imagination and creativity.
Students of class IX made models of satellite using trash and incorporated different ideas to make the satellite. Some used electric wires and circuits to light up their satellite. All the teams worked on their project enthusiastically. For the classes IX-XI-Astro Brain Teaser -Quiz was conducted. The quiz enhanced the knowledge of the participants as well as of the audience in the field of astronomy, missions sent by different countries for space explorations.
On 15th of October, which is also celebrated as the national student day, a debate was conducted for the students of class XI and the topic was “Is Space Research A Waste of time?”
The objective of the World Space Week was fulfilled as all the activities conducted during the week were informative and educative as the involvement of students in various activities, enhanced their knowledge and awareness about the space exploration.
It was a fun and learning experience for all the students.
