Gujarat High Court has cancelled the appointment of its 94 employees of class IV category who were recruited during the tenure of its former acting Chief Justice V. M. Sahai. According to sources, this recruitment was made by flouting prescribed norms as around 14 of them have already resigned. It was alleged that 94 candidates had been appointed to the posts of peon allegedly without issuing any public advertisement.

Registrar General of Gujarat High Court has said that resignation of some persons was accepted while the services of the remaining have been terminated recently. The decision to terminate the services of these peons had been taken by a committee of high court judges.

Earlier, the show-cause notices had been issued to all 94 persons who were recruited in the state high court by allegedly violating the norms for the appointment. The issue came in to light, when an Ahmedabad based RTI activist Ajay Prajapati had filed an affidavit in the high court last month that due process was not followed and several rules were flouted by the high court in recruiting its class IV employees.
