Four  workers were killed and 13 were injured in a gas leakage at the TDI unit of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GNFC) at Dahej in Bharuch district last night. Bharuch Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Singh told media that the mishap occurred prima facie due to mechanical failure.

The 13 injured were taken to a nearby hospital in Bharuch district and some were referred to the government hospital in Baroda.  A team of forensic Science Laboratory reached the sight.

Meanwhile, district Collector Sandeep Kumar Sagale said, the district administration has asked Director of Industrial Safety and Health to investigate the mishap. The management of GNFC has also appointed a technical committee to probe the matter.

GNFC has also said, the plant of Dahej has been completely shut down and emergency safety audit have been taken. The third party safety audit by an international company has also been ordered and the plant will be re-opened only after the safety audit is completed.

It also said that the situation is totally under control and there is no danger to the population in nearby villages.
