Union Home minister Rajnath Singh has given stress on the development as well as the full proof security of people living along the international border. Addressing the conference of the Chief Ministers of the North East region in Guwahati yesterday , Mr. Singh said that anti- social activities like smuggle of drugs and weapons along with movements of insurgents have been reported of late in Indo- Myanmar border. He said that over 2 lakh people are residing at around 240 villages within 10 kilometres of the Indo- Myanmar border.

The Home minister said that these people are living at the mercy of the insurgents. Mr Singh added that similar situations also prevailed along the Indo- Bhutan border. He said that a committee has been set up headed by Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee R N Ravi to review how to effectively manage the Indo-Myanmar border. Mr Singh said that the committee will submit its report soon following which his Ministry will take needful action on it. Giving stress on development, Mr Singh announced to increase 10 percent share to the states, from earlier 30 percent to 40 percent, under Border Area Development Program in the North-East region. He emphasized to beef up vigil along the Indo- Bhutan border.

Giving stress on strengthening police stations in the border areas, Mr. Singh said that for the success of Act East policy, a sense of security at border areas should be prevailed. On the question of withdrawal of AFSPA at some areas in North East, Mr. Singh said that it would be automatically revoked once situation improves.
