Minister of State for External Affairs, Gen V K Singh left for Iraq by a special flight today to bring back the mortal remains of 39 Indians who were killed by the Islamic State in Mosul. The remains were found in a mass grave in Badoush village on the outskirts of Mosul.
Mr. Singh is scheduled to reach Amritsar tomorrow and hand over the mortal remains to the victims’ families from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Later, he will fly to Kolkata and Patna.
Of the 39 people killed, 27 were from Punjab, four from Himachal, two from West Bengal and the remaining from Bihar.
V K Singh had visited Iraq three times earlier to locate them.
