Governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have issued an alert for a possible flash flood in Brahmaputra river. It was sounded after China informed India about a landslide blocking a river in Tibet leading to the formation of an artificial lake there.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the authorities of districts bordering Arunachal Pradesh to remain for a possible flesh flood. He directed the districts administration of Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur to take all possible steps to prevent a major catastrophe. Mr. Sonowal said, NDRF teams have been deployed in these districts.

According to reports water level in Brahmaputra, known as Siang river in Arunachal Pradesh is increasing after it overflowed from an artificial lake at the river known as Tsangpo in China. The artificial lake was formed some time ago after a massive landslide in that area and blocked the flow of river.

Two NDRF teams from Kolkata and Bhubaneswar landed in Pasighat today. District administration has already issued a high and all precautionary measures have been taken. The administration is constantly monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, Chinese Embassy spokesperson Counselor Ji Rong said that his country has activated the Emergency Information Sharing Mechanism with India following the landslide on Wednesday near Jiala village in Milin County in the lower ranges of Yaluzangbu river in Tibet.
