New Delhi: Mr Md Wasimul Haque, 81, chief editor of multi edition Urdu daily the Akhbar-e-Mashriq–was detained Thursday night for few hour and later released. The issue was raised in Rajya Sabha yesterday with leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad raised the issue of freedom of press.
According to his son, Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Nadimul Haque, the elder Haque was taken into “protective custody“ from his Laxmi Nagar home in the capital after the daily published a report for critical of a Hindu leaders’ “provocative statements“.

The report was not done by the correspondent of the newspaper rather taken from a news aganecy. MP Nadimul Haque also written to Home minister Rajnath Singh over treatment meted out to the senior journalist in the mid night.
